The Texas Open Series- Thursday Night Showdowns!

Thursday nights- we all know that TSR is the place to be. Between the live music at Wahoo’s, cable specials, and our weekly competition, there is no lack of entertainment no matter who you are. Well the good news just got even better- we are continuing our Thursday Night Showdowns at TSR even after the official Points Chase series is over! But wait.. There’s more! Each week’s competition will have a little bit of a different twist on it, keeping everything interesting and exciting for riders and spectators alike! We want to encourage anyone and EVERYONE to get involved with our showdowns- so even if you didn’t ride in a division for Points Chase, the great news is your points start over for our second series! That means a clean slate for everyone to get their chance at winning the ultimate grand prize- a basket full of gift cards, swag from sponsors, and so much more (have to keep some of it a surprise!)

Check out the schedule and descriptions of each week below!!

July 6th- Final week of Traditional Points Chase qualifier for Nationals at BSR

July 13th- Features Only JAM STYLE

Divisions: Groms, Boys, Jr. Men, Open Men, Open Women, Masters, and Pro

  • Same rules apply as the Features Only competition points chase series, but we will be riding in JAM style format! ALL features will be weighted equally! 4 people per heat, 6 minutes on the clock. Show us what you’ve got!

July 20th- Traditional Cable (Points Chase format)

Divisions: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Pro, Am. Wakeskate & Pro Wakeskate

*PLEASE NOTE- if you won your division two or more times throughout the official points chase series during the first half of the summer you are REQUIRED to bump up at least one division.

  • Same rules and format as the traditional style for the points chase series. Riders compete individually, and have two chances to throw their best run.
  • A full run is a lap PLUS the front stretch of features- the run ends at the first tower
  • Anyone riding in divisions above beginner will be given a wildcard option, which is a single trick added to the best run
  • All division rules and regulations remain the same as during official points chase series

July 27th- NO COMPETITION THIS WEEK (Nationals at BSR in Waco!)

August 3rd- Less than 3

Divisions: Groms, Boys, Jr. Men, Open Men, Open Women, Masters, and Pro

  • We are pushing STYLE AND STEEZE this week, rather than technicalities!
  • NO spins above a 360!
  • Format: Best run out of 3
  • Riders compete individually
  • Best LINES on each stretch will be taken into consideration

August 10th- Wacky Wakeskating

  • For all the wakeboarders to have a chance to try hopping on a wakeskate
  • High Ollie contest: think a game of limbo.. But instead of going UNDER you’re hopping OVER, and it’s on water! Feel free to hippie jump or straight up ollie over- if you knock the bar over you’re out!
  • Wakeskate Skeeball: Launch yourself off of your choice of kicker and aim for one of the three hoops on the other side to rack up points!!
  • If you TOUCH a hoop, you get half the number of points as you would get if you went THROUGH the hoop
  • Hoop closest to the kicker: 5 points
  • Middle hoop: 10 points
  • Far hoop: 15 points
  • High ollie contest will not be broken up by division- there will be one overall podium for this contest
  • Wakeskate Skeeball will be in the following divisions: Boys (13 and under), Jr. Men, Open Men, Open Women, and Masters

August 17th- Wheel of Fortune

Divisions: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Pro, Am. Wakeskate & Pro Wakeskate

*PLEASE NOTE- if you won your division two or more times throughout the official points chase series during the first half of the summer you are REQUIRED to bump up at least one division.

  • We’ve all seen the wheel of fortune game… well now there’s a wheel that will determine the fortune of your competition run.

  • Traditional style individual riding- taking the best of two runs, and a “run” consisting of a single lap in addition to the first stretch

  • Before each rider is sent off the dock, the wheel will be spun to see what kind of variations the rider must include in their run

  • Wheels are different based on the division, so they will line up with riders’ skill levels

  • Whatever the wheel lands on, the rider must include SOME variation of the requirement at some point in their competition run. The more times they can include it, the better their score will be. It must be apparent at least ONCE in their run

  • See the list below to get an idea of what the wheel might land on and start practicing tricks that will fit every bill!

August 24th- TEAM Features Only Jam Style!

Divisions: Groms, Boys, Jr. Men, Open Men, Open Women, Masters, and Pro

  • Grab your friends, because this is a TEAM effort! Teams will consist of up to 4 riders.

  • All 4 riders will be sent together in the same jam, 8 minutes on the clock, but instead of riding against each other they are working together to stack up their tricks and therefore stack up their points

  • This will be a features only competition, but all features are weighted equally

August 31st- Video Comp ends with a back to school blowout party & video showings and voting!

The video contest STARTS NOW and will be open UNTIL AUGUST 30th!! Grab a few friends (no more than 4 in a group) and throw together the best edit you can- include anything you want (as long as it is appropriate and legal)- and get them ready for our showing/premiere on Thursday, August 31st, where friends and family will have the opportunity to both view and VOTE for their favorite! The winning team of the video contest will be rewarded with unique prizes and the edit will be sent to media outlets throughout the wakeboarding community.
